8 Reasons Why Daredevil Is Marvel's Greatest Superhero

1. Witty Swashbuckler Or Sombre Vigilante, Daredevil Is Always Fantastic

Marvel Comics

As with most heroes of the medium, Daredevil's evolution has spanned a great many personalities, costumes and even locales. He's been the 'Kingpin' of Hell's Kitchen and has served as one of San Francisco's foremost crime-fighters, all complete with varying tones to suit respective creative teams' artistic visions.

More often than not these fall into either one of two categories: the daring swashbuckler or the sombre vigilante; but whilst these may sound like two distinct, independent takes on the character, the overlap between them - though not entirely frequent - makes perfect sense. It's not exactly a large juxtaposition, after all. Matt, like many of us, has experienced both good times and bad. Though he may fluctuate between tones, character progression is still central to his story - none of it feels anomalous or even contradictory to previous tales told. The confident and upbeat devil of Waid and Samnee's run is the same one Miller pioneered in the eighties - he just had to find the key to his happiness.

Matt Murdock is without doubt Marvel's foremost literary property. Though others have come close, no other hero in their library best channels the publisher's creativity than Daredevil. He has the personality, the look, and the drama - the only thing missing is mainstream recognition of those qualities.
