8 Reasons You Need To Read Valkyrie

Jason Aaron's spectacular run on Thor may be ending, that doesn't mean he's done with Jane Foster.

Jane Foster Valkyrie
Marvel Comics

Jane Foster has had a crazy life since Jason Aaron came along. The last seven years has seen her go head to head with The All-Father himself, join The Congress of Worlds and overcome cancer. Jane Foster has been fleshed out into much more than a love interest character for the Odinson and a true stand-alone character in Marvel Comics. Coming out of the epic War of the Realms event, Jane Foster is now a Valkyrie and once again has to figure out how to balance her life in New York with galaxy stretching quests to protect The Ten Realms.

After the success of The Mighty Thor run, its great to see Jane Foster thrown into the spotlight again with fresh challenges and the brilliant writing of Jason Aaron and Al Ewing. Vibrant yet not over the top colours from Jesus Aburtov combined with Cafu's amazing pencil-work should put this book to the top of your pull lists.

Spoilers ahead as we look into why you should be reading this incredible book.

8. There's A Talking Horse From Yorkshire

Jane Foster Valkyrie
Marvel Comics

Things are getting very weird, even by comic standards.

Clearly Al Ewing didn't think a talking, flying horse was strange enough and decided to put his own voice to one. 'Orse (or Mister 'Orse, if we're being formal), is introduced as a villain's mount, but becomes a key character when he moves into Jane Foster's apartment and becomes the mount of Valkyrie.

Not only is the voice written with a strong Yorkshire accent, Mister 'Orse is the embodiment of a hard working Yorkshire resident. He is very proud of his working class status and where he was raised, often quipping about how he isn't like the "posh ponies" from Asgard. While serving as comic relief, it's a delightful reflection on the people from the area that British audiences rarely get to enjoy.
