8 Times Asgard Went To War
1. God Bomb
While most consider this a Thor fight, seeing as how there are three Thors involved, technically this is a fight involving the whole of Asgard.
Taking place in the far future, this story sees three Thors from different moments in the character's history fight along side other gods from throughout the cosmos trying to defeat Gorr The God Butcher before he can detonate the God Bomb.
What made this fight Asgard's greatest wasn't that it involved so many gods. In fact, most of Asgard's people are either dead because Gorr butchered them, or were enslaved by him to help construct the God Bomb. When the story began, King Thor was the sole inhabitant of Asgard.
No, what made this fight Asgard's and Thor's greatest were the stakes. Gorr was born to a life of tragedy after tragedy plaguing him and his highly religious people. Angered that they would blindly place their faith in beings who promised salvation but never rewarded them with it, Gorr set about butchering any god who he could find after finding All-Black the Necrosword. After failing to defeat Thor is his younger years, Gorr began plotting a way of wiping out every god that ever existed. His plan for the God Bomb was to send it back in time to the moment the first being in existence came to be and detonating it, thereby wiping out all life from existence, including the divine.
Believing that not all gods were irredeemable and could be worthy of the faith placed in them by people, Thor and the remnants of Asgard battled Gorr until Thor wrestled control of All-Black and became empowered by the prayers of all the surviving gods, allowing him to absorb the blast from the God Bomb and kill the God-Butcher.
