8 Times Wolverine Died In The Comics
5. Disemboweled By A Possessed Beast
During Grant Morrison's tremendous run on the popular New X-Men comic, the writer introduced readers to Sublime; an ancient, sentient bacteria with the ability to possess a wide variety of hosts, bending them to his will. Threatened by the fact that he can't possess hosts with the mutant gene, Sublime vows to rid the world of mutantkind once and for all in order to maintain his firm grip on humanity.
During the Here Comes Tomorrow storyline - once again set in a dystopian future - a depressed Beast turns to the drug known as Kick to handle the stress of running Xavier's Institute.
Unbeknownst to him however, the drug is actually made up of Sublime, allowing him to enter Beast's body and take control, giving him access to all of Beast's abilities in the process. As the remaining X-Men scramble to put a stop to this new version of Beast, Wolverine challenges him against the advice of an ethereal Jean Grey (it's a long story).
Taking away Wolverine's healing factor, Beast follows up with an attack that cuts open Logan's stomach, spilling his guts in the process. Fatally wounded, Wolverine's sacrifice ultimately allows Jean Grey to gather her strength and stop Beast, immediately avenging her fallen teammate.
