9 Comics You Should Be Reading This Week (18th Oct)

5. Wonder Woman #8

Harley Quinn Suicide Squad 4
DC

DC, Rucka/Evely/Fajardo Jr./Wynne

Worth Reading For: The Mythology and Glorious ‘Indiana Jones’ Style Map Page.

Sliding away for a moment from Diana’s storyline, #8 focuses on the origins of archaeologist Barbara Ann Minerva, aka Cheetah. We get the full mythology of her beginnings here (including a visit from Athena) as she tracks down the real history of the Amazons. The story reads like a realistic Lara Croft set in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and it’s a joy from start to finish.

If you’ve not been following the alternating storylines in DC’s “Wonder Woman Rebirth” this year then to say ‘you’re missing out’ would be an understatement of Themiscyran proportions. Greg Rucka (“Lazarus”) has been working with artists Liam Sharp (“Testament”) and Nicola Scott (“Black Magick”) to create “Year One” and “Year Ten/The Lies” storylines, which release every fortnight.

#8 acts as an ‘Interlude’ episode in the series and features artist Bilquis Evely (“Sugar & Spike”) who looks perfectly ready to fill the Amazonian-styled boots left to her by Scott, whose run will end with #14.

A. J. S. Scott was created as a homunculus by a mad English Alchemist who was trying to make rum from ink and seawater. He is still a fan of both and he has no comment on what happened to all the ‘No Exit’ signs in Islington Underground Station when he visited for Beltaine. You can send him missives by bribing the Right Raven with sour-strings, or: Instagram: @ajsscott Tumblr: andrew-scott-things.tumblr.com
