1. Daredevil: Redemption
Every once in a while, a stand-alone comes along and shakes things up. While
Redemption isn't directly in line with Bendis' work, or anyone that follows, it remains my personal favorite story of Daredevil's. Mirroring literature like
To Kill a Mockingbird,
Redemption follows Matt out of his home in Hell's Kitchen to the south, where he defends a supposed child murderer who practices in a Satanic cult. It's a story that really pops out of the regular for Daredevil, not only because of the radical culture shock, but because Daredevil is faced with a perverted version of his own beliefs in the Bible belt of the United States. What follows is a gripping, moving, and breathtaking work penned by David Hine. On par with Brad Meltzer's
Identity Crisis, it's a tale that brings to light Matt's isolation amongst peers who are his absolute worst nightmare: people wanting the wrong kind of justice. Out of the blue and truly a sensational read, I couldn't recommend
Redemption more. What are you waiting for?
