A South Vermillion high school pupil was known for being a model student, until the day she attacked her teacher. During early 2009, the female student asked if she could use the bathroom in the middle of a class. Once there, she applied white make up, red lipstick, and pulled out a large razor. Using the razor, the student cut her own face, in a way that resembled the Joker's look in The Dark Knight. After the self-mutilation, she entered the classroom, still holding the deadly razor. In silence, she began moving towards the teacher, making as if to cut her. The teacher was able to keep the student at bay using a desk and chair, until help finally arrived. None except the troubled student were hurt in the incident, and the girl was taken to a mental health facility in Bloomington for treatment and evaluation.
