Irrespective of where you fall on the DC/Marvel divide, it's become increasingly apparent over the last few years that Marvel are following at a pace DC themselves have set, for better or for worse.

The New 52 set that precedent some seven (yes, seven) years ago, and things have only continued along that course ever since. Marvel Legacy was a considered reply to 2016's DC: Rebirth, and with the publisher now placing a greater emphasis on their classic comics, Marvel have chosen now, of all years, to bring back the Fantastic Four.

There are countless other factors that have precipitated this new (some would consider nostalgia-driven), focus, including Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox at the end of last year, but the fact remains that Rebirth came first, and that DC are the ones leading the way when it comes to all things comics.

It's a race Marvel could soon yet lead, but they're only following a trend DC set some two years ago - one exemplified most recently by the return of Superman's iconic red trunks.
