9 Things The Amazon-Marvel Deal Means For Comics

7. Not Much Of A Splash In The Amazonscape

When you hear about two titans of industry like Marvel and Amazon working together, you probably think massive sales or even monopoly is sure to follow. Yet, look at Amazon's comics and graphic novels best-sellers homepage and you won't find a space that's as Marvel-centered as the traditional comic-book store or even the action-adventure section of Netflix. Although the section is updated hourly and therefore subject to change, at writing, the top-sellers are the long-running Injustice: Gods Among Us, based on a video game that is in turn a dark reinterpretation of DC Comics, and Minecraft: Diary of a Wimpy Steve, a video-game centered parody of Diary of a Wimpy Kid The #1 book in the section, Marrow, appears to be misfiled, as it has plenty to do with superheroes but nothing to do with comics or graphic novels except that the latter often have superheroes in them. Marvel didn't even crack the top 20 bestsellers (the first page of results), with its biggest mover, Civil War, coming in at #22. Also a big seller: Fun Home, a serious graphic memoir about the loss of a father and homosexuality.
