9 Times Batman Was Forced To Surrender His Cowl

7. Battle For The Cowl

Bruce Wayne Quits Batman
DC Comics

Following Bruce Wayne's apparent death at the hands of Darkseid during the events of Final Crisis, several contenders for the mantel of the Bat emerged.

Jason Todd arose as a gun-toting Caped Crusader in the Battle for the Cowl arc, but since leaving criminals full of holes is a debasement of what Batman stands for, it fell to Dick Grayson to step up to the plate once again.

Although Bruce's last will and testament urges Dick against becoming the Dark Knight, his original protege went on to head up his own Batman and Robin series with Batman's son Damien Wayne as the Boy Wonder, which lasted right up until the inevitable return of Bruce Wayne.

Who knew that Darkseid's Omega Beams had the power to send their victims hurtling back through time?
