9 Worst Things Doctor Doom Has Done
5. He Murdered His Childhood Love

Waid's 'Unthinkable' storyline certainly lives up to the name, with Doom having carried multiple acts of an unspeakable nature.
The Doom of this world is pretty relentless, but the path he took to gaining his new power was completely contemptible. Before travelling to the United States, Victor had fallen in love with a woman called Valeria. After years apart, Doom returns to her and proclaims his love yet again, gifting her an amulet that, while garish on the surface, holds infinitely more sinister properties.
But, in order to increase his proficiency in the mystic arts, Doom is forced to sacrifice Valeria. Only, he shows little to no remorse. Worse still is the manner of Valeria's death, which (played out in excruciating detail over several panels), involves her being burned to death by the jewellery Doom had gifted her.
Waid's arc was influential for a whole host of reasons, but in distilling the very essence of Doom's evil, the book found a whole other kind of salience.
