Al Ewing's 10 Favourite Comic Book Scenes

9. Judge Dredd, “The Cold Deck” Episode 2 - Dredd Kicks Down The Door

Trifecta, the “surprise” Dredd crossover of 2012, wasn’t originally my idea – Si Spurrier came up with the original concept – but my third of it, The Cold Deck, was one of the best Dredd stories I ever wrote, and I got to drop a few of the more satisfying twists – including the beat which revealed that rather than three unrelated Dreddverse stories, this was all one big story.

I think that was Si’s idea too – Dredd kicking down a door at the end of his strip, and then appearing through a kicked-down door in the Simping Detective’s strip on the next page – but it was very satisfying to see the reactions when it hit the stands, and it came at the end of a dense, procedural-heavy cameo from Roffman, one of my favorite Wagner creations.
