Avengers vs X-Men #2 - Comic Review
Just fights. That's it. But AVX #2 is still quite fun.

Okay, Okay, I came back to the mini series I chewed out last month for being a big old waste of time and being an unnecessary addition to an already vast Marvel crossover event. Ill put my hands up. Captain America vs Gambit intrigued me. What can I say, I love that Cajun. 
As suspected this battle isnt all that tough for Captain America. I mean, come on, Gambits awesome but no one expected a win here right? That said, the Ragin Cajun gives it a bloody good shot, even with Captain America disregarding the threat of the kinetically charged X-Man for the most part. Gambits attacks here just end up promoting his worth to Captain America and to the Marvel Comics audience really. Gambit elevates from a side order for the Cap to someone that requires more credit. I like that about the story and even though Gambit gets taken out with relative ease its enjoyable getting there. 
Weirdly for a comic series I dissed for being largely pointless, I found myself having a whole lot of fun with the battles here. The editors notes were more playful than the previous issue and added to the throw away nature of these stories quite nicely. Some of the gags in the Spider-man vs Colossus (-anaut) like Doombots explode with the force of an M67 hand grenade. This is a design flaw make me grin and even though there isnt a frame here that makes me think either of these character would ever hurt each other really, the nostalgic visuals of Spider-man vs Juggernaut (even though its not really Juggernaut) kept me locked in. 
Feeding into this nostalgia, Kieron Gillen writes Spider-man in a way where hes also getting a kick out of fighting Juggernaut (as well as a fair few punches). Little digs at how he knows this will play out makes this a chuckle. It does nothing to help the drama of AVX but if this AvX spin off mini series is out to entertain, these two stories do it. I still think these fights should have been woven into the main Avengers vs X-men run or even used as bonus stories in the back of the issues as opposed to getting their own issues you have to buy but hey, if the completist in you has the money, theres worse places to blow your money I guess.
