Batman: 10 Most Iconic Locations in the History of the Dark Knight

1. The Batcave

Come on, was there ever any doubt? So iconic is the term €˜Batcave€™ that it€™s actually found its way into modern colloquial language, in a form at least. You€™ve heard of a €˜Mancave€™ right? A Mancave is a room, particularly common in a household shared by a boyfriend and girlfriend; it€™s the room populated by the "man€™s things" (note the inverted commas, they mean I'm not sexist); the games consoles, the action figures, the comic books. In fact, I€™m writing this very piece right now from my own Mancave. It€™s also typically the place I go, much like the Batcave is to the Dark Knight, to be alone, to be protected (not to view internet pornography, I swear!) If you encounter Batman anywhere, in books, games, movies, whatever it may be, you€™ll spend time in the Batcave, that€™s a guaran-damn-tee. It€™s Bruce Wayne€™s fortress of solitude, his base of operations, his real home. Metaphorically, this cave is also similar to Bruce Wayne himself; once a bleak endless void deep beneath the surface, it€™s been filled, given renewal and life, by the presence of the Batman. Again, I€™ve got goose-bumps. There€™s no more iconic a location in the history, present or future of Batman lore. The Batcave is the primary location. Sure, when we€™re reading Batman, we€™ll go all over Gotham €“ shipyards, amusement parks, catacombs €“ but we€™ll always return to the Batcave before long. So there are my picks for the ten most iconic locations in Batman lore. Anything you'd like to shoot down? Or simply want to discuss the greatest superhero in existence? We'll always entertain a Bat-discussion at WhatCulture! Do throw us a comment or two, won't you?
