Even those who€™ve never found themselves with a Batman book in their hands, who€™ve never flicked on an animated series, who€™ve never even had the desire to watch one of the many live action movies, will have an idea of what the Batsignal is, even of where it€™s located. Situated atop the GCPD, the Batsignal is Jim Gordon€™s only real way of contacting the Dark Knight. You will see the Batsymbol should you ever pick up a comic book; you€™ll also see it should you come into contact with the character anywhere else in the media for that matter. It€™s always interesting to see how each writer and artist team use the Batsignal. It€™s not just a method of summoning the Dark Knight to action (although it is that too), it€™s a complex dramatic device. It€™s often use in uniquely imaginative and deeply metaphorical ways (see above) to deliver a poignant message. The message depicted above? Bruce Wayne was born to be Batman. I€™ve got goose bumps€
