7. The Pulse Pounding Beginning

The book opens with Batman being revived in an Ambulance as a paramedic tries to cut his mask off to look for a head wound. Obviously, Bats snaps awake and fights everyone off from the ambulance, hurling himself out of the back doors. Even when he's mortally wounded, he maintains his stoic, efficient self. Right from the beginning it's clear this isn't a rookie Batman, this is Bruce at the height of his career.

But what happened to him before we turned the page, who stabbed him? The likely candidate is his arch-nemesis, The Joker of course. But that might be too obvious. Judging by his near broken body within the opening pages, Bruce had to be fighting someone with considerable strength and power.

Maybe The Joker wasn't working alone...
