Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill
Writer: Len Wein. Artist: Steve Rude This one shot focuses solely on the corporate-sponsored superhero Dollar Bill, the ill fated hero that we knew one day would have problems with his cape. Theres not really much to say about this one, other than it was a short and sweet exploration of a Watchmen supporting character and gave us another insight into the costumed crime fighting of the Minutemen era. A sponsored superhero is quite a cute area to explore and the character of Dollar Bill was yet another face in the Watchmen crowd that had a complicated past and dreams of being a better man. This one felt a little shoe horned into the Before Watchmen run, with lacklustre art work and a very linear storyline. Even with that said, it was quite fun to read and it is of course a character we all knew, even from his limited panel time in the original Watchmen. When this single issue was released, it raised the question of Could there be more Watchmen comics focusing on the background characters? and I still think theres scope for that.
