Technically Mar-Vell's eldest son (though his "younger" brother, Genis-Vell, was artificially aged to adulthood), Teddy Altman is a half-Kree, half-Skrull hybrid with royal blood, raised as a human boy by a loving Skrull agent disguised as his human mother.

Though he would come into prominence long after Mar-Vell's death, the shapeshifting, super-strong Hulkling became a hero in his own right, helping to found the Avengers' youth equivalent, the Young Avengers.

In his earlier outings as a hero, he moulded himself after The Hulk with his Kree strength, only later revealing his shapeshifting abilities, thinking he was a mutant until he was kidnapped by the Super-Skrull, Kl'rt.

Because of his mixed heritage and royal descent (his mother being Princess Anelle of the Skrull empire), certain factions of the Skrull and Kree went to war over him, though he would stay on Earth to remain a hero.

For a time, he fought as one of the New Avengers, eventually becoming engaged to his long-time boyfriend, the equally powerful Wiccan, the reality-bending son of The Vision and Scarlet Witch.
