Dark Nights: Metal - 8 Reasons To Be Excited About The Batman Crossover

6. Dark Nights Will Be Accessible

Batman Dark Nights Metal Scott Snyder Greg Capullo
DC Comics

Although Dark Nights follows on from Rebirth, launches out of two prequels and connects with countless tie-ins, the core six issues can be enjoyed in isolation.

They will tell a standalone story with a defined beginning, middle and end, but those who wish to dig deeper have the option to delve into the one-shots and other comics from the publisher's range that the story touches on.

Metal lands precariously close to another event with major implications for the DC Universe - the Watchmen-integrating Doomsday Clock - but Snyder has assured fans that neither with become entangled with the other.

He told GameSpot...

"You can read one or the other or both and be fine either way. They're both in the real continuity of the present day DC Universe."

Only minimal background knowledge of the current DCU goings on will be required to jump into Metal head-first, but if yours is rusty, prelude one-shots Dark Days: The Forge and Dark Days: The Casting will bring you up to speed.

Which reminds us...
