DC's New Gods: Everything You Need To Know

7. New Genesis And Apokolips

New Genesis Where Have All The New Gods Gone
DC Comics

The two cornerstones of Kirby's Fourth World saga are actually two planets: New Genesis and Apokolips.

The latter is ruled by the evil (and equally notorious) Darkseid, a dictator obsessed with conquest, domination, and finding the coveted 'anti-life equation', a formula that'll allow him to quell all resistance and finally end the threat posed by New Genesis. Characters who have also resided on Apokolips include Granny Goodness, Kalibak, Big Barda and Mister Miracle, the latter two of which were imprisoned in Granny's infernal 'orphanage' - a facility designed to brainwash and condition its captives into becoming loyal warriors for Darkseid's armies.

Then there's New Genesis, the antithesis of Apokolips and a planet ruled by the Highfather, who's also the biological parent to Mister Miracle and the adoptive father to Orion. (Both characters were involved in a peacemaking exchange between the two planets when they were children). The planet itself has been locked in an eternal struggle with the forces of Apokolips, serving as the last bastion against Darkseid in his quest for total domination.

Notable characters to reside on New Genesis include Metron (an omnipotent hoverchair-riding New God), the aforementioned Barda and Miracle, Orion, the Black Racer (the literal embodiment of death itself), and more.
