DC's New Gods: Everything You Need To Know

6. Mister Miracle & Big Barda

If there were any two characters likely to lead the DCEU film, it would be Scott Free and Big Barda.

Raised together in Granny's insidious Orphanage, the pair soon formed a bond and escaped, forming one of the most iconic partnerships in the medium and one of the all time great romances of the superhero genre. They're tailor-made for the big screen, and are able to boast a resurgent presence in the comics themselves, having starred in Tom King and Mitch Gerads' incredible Mister Miracle series for over six issues now.

In the comics, Scott Free is the biological son to New Genesis' Highfather, and was sent to Apokolips as part of a peacekeeping move that saw Orion move in the opposite direction. Fleeing to earth with Barda, Scott met Thaddeus Brown (the original Mister Miracle), and took on his mantle as a death-defying miracle worker. He's immortal (like most New Gods), super strong, agile and - as the name would suggest - really good at escaping things.

Then there's Barda, who like Scott, was raised in Granny's hellpit. She's taller, stronger, and just about one of the best characters in DC's library. She also has a fan in DuVernay, so expect her to play a key part in the film once the story's fully drafted.
