The main protagonist of Kirby's comics, Orion is the biological son of Darkseid and the adoptive son of Highfather. New Genesis is all he knows, and while it could be argued that Mister Miracle is the more compelling character, Orion is bound to play a key role in any cinematic adaptation of Kirby's source material.
Orion is a really interesting character to approach because he's the son of the worst tyrant the DCU has ever seen, but that isn't without its advantages. Orion's lineage actually serves him well in combat, and in harnessing the teachings of the Highfather, he would become one of the most powerful New Gods of all.
He and Scott Free went on to form a key partnership in the comics, and with that in mind, it's not difficult to envision a film centred around their shared history. The premise of two long-lost siblings coming together from two different worlds possesses dynamite appeal, especially since the freedom of one (Scott), came at great cost - the peace between the two planets.

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
