Death Of Wolverine: 10 Ways To Make It Not Suck

4. Using The Series To Launch An Event Comic

Event-driven storytelling has become insanely prevalent in the universes of the Maevel and DC universes; with many big €œnothing will be the same€ crossovers leading right into the next €œworld shaking!€ crisis. While they certainly have their place in the universes, more comics seem to be given over to tying into them than they are following individual storylines. Many times we have seen the conclusions to miniseries turn into advertisements for future events (yes Amazons Attack! that was directed at you) and it€™s a problem which could be repeated here. Even taking into account Charles Soule€™s outspoken dedication to giving Wolverine a proper ending, all it would take is an executive decision to completely change the story. Reducing any story to a mere publicity stunt for another major event would be bad enough, but here it would look as if Marvel cared nothing for its major characters. It would send the message that they only valued the cash they brought in rather than their importance to fans, pop culture or even publicity for the company. If this did happen it wouldn€™t be the first time a major character moment would be used to promote buying an event comic. Recent months alone saw the new Ms Marvel's origin requiring readers to buy Inhumanity to understand what was going on. If Marvel is willing to try and entice fans to jump onto a big event with a hero's birth, it's equally likely they'll find a way to do the same with a death.
