Frank Miller: Ranking His Comics From Worst To Best
18. RoboCop Vs. The Terminator (1992)
While Holy Terror is awful for failing to rein in Miller's political passion, there is admittedly no such problem with RoboCop vs. The Terminator. If you're looking for political or social commentary, thematic depth, conflicted heroes and legendary villains - hell, if you're looking for anything but cheap thrills, you're looking in the wrong place. Walt Simonson illustrates what basically amounts to everything that was cut out of RoboCop 2 and 3; the sequels to the original 1987 film that were also penned by Miller. There are sequences detailing the brain of the cyborg policeman, focusing on the human part that remains inside the metal exoskeleton, and these sequences are actually quite interesting... €and then The Terminator bits get thrown in and the story becomes as forgettable as its title would suggest. RoboCop turns out to be partially responsible for Skynet (of course!), and so he fights to destroy the network, yet in doing so creates a paradox that destroys himself as well. RoboCop vs. The Terminator reaches some staggeringly ridiculous lows, and it only places ahead of Holy Terror because it didn't exactly have very far to fall in the first place.
