Green Lantern: 10 Greatest Characters (And 1 That Sucked)

1. Thall Sinestro

green-lantern-v5-1-sinestro While Hal Jordan may be what we all want our Lanterns to be, he might have turned out quite different if not for Thall Sinestro, his first teacher/mentor and greatest adversary. Sinestro's actions were certainly evil but his intentions were not. His creation of his self named Corps existed to create fear throughout the universe but it was done with one goal in mind - to make the Green Lanterns a force to be reckoned with. His methods were extreme to say the least, but when you're dealing with the narrow minded, arrogant and emotionless Guardians of the Universe, how else could he make them see their weakness? It was Sinestro who made the Green Lantern Corps a true powerhouse, a police force who could use their guns rather than merely offer up empty threats. Through his devious machinations, Sinestro actually made the universe a safer place to be. Could he have done it differently? Perhaps. Would it have been as successful? Probably not. To be a great hero, Hal Jordan needed his Joker, his Lex Luthor and he found it in Sinestro. A deeply flawed but richly layered character that has set the tone for Green Lantern stories forever.
