4. Incredible Hulk #271
Rocket Raccoon made his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #271. Created in the late 1960's by Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen the intergalactic mammal showed up in the big green smashing machine's comic looking like the long lost twin of Sandy Squirrel alongside his one-time running buddy and first mate Wal Rus to help the explosive Dr Banner overcome a threat posed by the most evil mole in the universe (yes you read that correctly) Judson Jakes. As bizarre an addition to the Hulk mythology as Rocket was he proved to be incredibly popular with Marvel's throngs of young fans and as a result he was in high demand forcing the big wigs of Marvel to keep the little guy around. Since this brief stint in Hulk #271 and an origin story off the back of a She Hulk appearance Rocket Raccoon has become one of the most popular character's in the history of the comic industry but for casual fans he still remains relatively unknown. That will change with the arrival of the Guardians movie next year.
