Identity Crisis: 9 Things It Got Right (And The 1 Big Thing It Didn't)

6. The Mystery

The mystery at the heart of Identity Crisis is Who killed Sue Dibny? The story takes many a shocking twist and turn throughout the seven issues. There are innumerable red herrings, unrelated secrets and just the right number of suspects to make the final reveal seem satisfying.

However, perhaps the most exciting bit of storytelling is that the killer knows everyone's secrets. They use this knowledge to scare, attack and intimidate both heroes and villains. The fact that there seems to be no clear motive or rationale beyond "hurting" the members of the Justice League makes the killer's identity more elusive.

That certain members of the League have been altering people’s perceptions and memories only bolsters the mystery. This uncertainty makes it even more of a challenge to hunt the killer when characters don’t know who they can trust. They must even question their memories of Sue Dibny and how gaps in their knowledge may be vital to solving the case.
