Immortal Hulk: 10 Shocking Moments That Blew Fans' Minds

With the Immortal Hulk seeming like a much more caring, well-mannered version of the green giant than we're used to, it appeared that for all intents and purposes that this Hulk would be one largely just focused on taking care of Banner and being left alone. But the series' eighteenth issue puts a spanner in these works, by providing us an insight into why Banner and the Devil Hulk joined forces in the first place: to end the world.

Or, at least, to end human civilisation, as Doc Samson interprets this to mean. After all, since the Hulk is immortal, seeing the damage humanity does to the planet surely makes him want to change the way humans live... right?

It's never made clear whether the pair are nobly trying to defend the Earth, or just destroy it entirely - although more recent issues do point towards the latter. This is perhaps the ultimate masterstroke of the series, as we're left trying to work out if the green goliath intends to be the world's saviour, or its destroyer, with both possibilities currently seeming equally likely.
