JLA - Tower Of Babel: The Full Story

4. “The Plans Were Mine!”

Tower of Babel
DC Comics

While the attacks were being conducted against his teammates, Batman was on the hunt for the stolen coffins of his parents. He arrived at the lair of Ra’s al Ghul to find them suspended over a Lazarus Pit. Bruce was shocked but intrigued at the prospect of their resurrection. However, he soon discovered this was nothing more than a distraction.

In JLA #44, Batman asked al Ghul directly what was going on and the Demon’s Head showed him the Red Kryptonite and detailed how he used the Dark Knight’s contingency plans against his teammates. Bruce immediately tried to get out of the underground lair to warn Superman but he was delayed by al Ghul’s men.

Batman was finally able to escape the fortress and contact Superman to let him know that everything that had been happening was because of him but it was too late. He screamed the words “The plans were mine” but Superman was beyond hearing due to the excruciating pain as the Red Kryptonite had turned his skin transparent and he was absorbing too much solar energy at once. All of his teammates were already incapacitated, enduring massive pain and hardship, or in recovery. Bruce barely got his warning out before all the spoken word in the world stopped making sense.
