MCU: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Mephisto

5. No True Physical Form

Believe it or not, Mephisto's appearance as the Marvel Universe's scariest raspberry pastille is a choice.

An ethereal being composed of pure energy, the Hell king typically takes the form of a tall, caped red guy for reasons that probably make sense to him. On many occasions, however, he has taken a variety of different forms, disguises and stylings to go about whatever sinister ploy he has going on that week.

Even his typical demonic form has often been altered by the whims of the artist pencilling him. No hot take on the character's standard appearance was more glaring than John Romita Sr. turning him into a heavy metal frog man in this regard. Following in the footsteps of Hank Pym and Apocalypse, Mephisto can alter his size as well, often growing to absurd proportions in combat.

As if his bad attitude and powers weren't already too much to handle, when he does take a physical body, Mephisto is borderline indestructible. Needless to say, he's one of Marvel's deadliest, most fearsome antagonists. The fact that not having an official body and set appearance is a strength just hammers home the bizarre nature of this Satanic character all the more.
