MCU Phase 4: 10 Obscure Comic Villains Who Should Appear
6. Wrecking Crew
The “Wrecking Crew” may sound like a music collective formed in the 1960s—and that’s because it is—but it’s also the name of a four-man troupe of villains that often plot to take down the Mighty Thor.
Origin stories don’t get much more blue collar than theirs, either. While simultaneously gripping an Asgardian-enchanted crowbar as it’s struck by lightning, four men of questionable morals are turned into Wrecker, Bulldozer, Piledriver and Thunderball, and the Wrecking Crew was born.
It need not necessarily be the original '90s cast of Gladiators that play the Wrecking Crew, but they serve as comparable treatments for the cast. Past-their-prime physical specimens of a grizzled nature around their 40s, who perhaps have a thing against authority figures.
And no, Mickey Rourke won't be considered for a Marvel reboot, but Iron Man 2's Whiplash is perhaps in the same ball park as the down-on-his-luck, blue-collar look we'd go for in the casting.
The Wrecking Crew has on its day gone toe-to-toe with the Avengers and lived to tell the tale, but they’ve also been bumped down closer to street level in the comics at times, depending on how big a threat they need to portray.
Thor’s place in the MCU is up for question heading into Infinity War, but after all this intergalactic hubbub dies down and a less daunting villain is needed (possibly to kick off a reboot with Jane Foster emerging..?), the Wrecking Crew could oblige.
