NYCC 2017: Rogue & Gambit Finds Its Creative Team

Hawkeye's writer crafting the ragin' cajun? Yes please!

Although Marvel dropped news of both a Legion and a Rogue & Gambit series prior to NYCC, they held off on announcing each series' creative teams. News of an announcement flew under the radar, sadly, owed to the sad state Marvel's Retailer Breakfast found itself in yesterday morning.

In spite of the general bigotry thrown Marvel's way that morning, news that Hawkeye alum Kelly Thompson would be writing the upcoming Rogue & Gambit series is really awesome to hear. Per ComicsBeat, it'll last five issues, so it'll be short and sweet, but it's yet another X-book fans have to look forward to in the months to come. It'll also be drawn by Pere Perez.

Legion, the other title Marvel announced, will be written by Peter Milligan, with art provided by Wilfredo Torres. The character's been enjoying a resurgence as of late, curtesy of a well reviewed TV series created by Noah Hawley, so it'll be interesting to see how it plays into the wider X-verse when it drops. Marvel are no strangers to adjusting their strategy to capitalise on the popularity of films and TV series, after all, so it could be that we're looking at a new ongoing.

Bar that, X-Men fans will have another look at The Gifted if they're at the convention centre. Here's hoping there are more announcements to come.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
