Secret Six: 9 Things You Need To Know
4. They Spotlight Mature, Character-Driven Stories
As you may have gathered already, Secret Six is all about villains. It may make some of these psychopaths seem sympathetic, even making Catman feel heroic and at odds with the rest of the team, but the title never hides the fact that these are bad people. That is ultimately where this comic becomes something special.
Here's a quick scene from the limited series: Scandal Savage lost her lover, Knockout, so the team decides to get a stripper and dress her like Knockout to hop out of a birthday cake to try and cheer Scandal up. It's a horrible idea for any sane person to come up with, but because this team is just so divorced from any sort of logic, that was their answer to get their leader out of her drunk stupor.
Sex and violence permeate the book, but they never take centre stage. Rather, Secret Six finds success in focusing on the compelling personalities of its respective leads.
Catman, Bane, Scandal Savage - all of them are the heart and soul of the book. In spotlighting these characters first and foremost, Secret Six transcended the other team-based books of the time, and became a must-read comic.
