Secret Six: 9 Things You Need To Know
2. They're Better Than The Suicide Squad
The comparison was always bound to happen. A group of villains doing missions, be it by a handler or on their own, that don't shy away from the fact that they are in fact villains is very similar to that of another DC group - the Suicide Squad. The main difference to note, however, is that the Secret Six don't have bombs in their heads, and aren't funded by the government.
This comparison, as well as Deadshot being a prominent member to both teams, has led to not only the "who's better" argument but also actual crossovers too. The best was the trap laid by Amanda Waller to lure the Secret Six to Belle Reve and kill them, except for Deadshot, because the government put a lot of money into him. While this is a fairly even match-up, the group has to team up with the Squad to take on dead members of each team in a Blackest Night tie-in.
More than that, in sheer concept alone, it has a better flow than Suicide Squad could. While writing is definitely a factor, and there have been some great Suicide Squad stories, the magnitude of the characters from Secret Six not having a proper affiliation with anyone means there's not the safety net of having Waller as handler, or the repetition of the team being government contract killers in ever story-arc.
