Spider-Man: 10 Alternate Spider-Verse Stories Fans Must Read
7. Spider-Man 2099
Back in the nineties, there were only two major variations away from the core Spider-Man formula (whereas today there are more Spider-people than there are spiders in New York), those being Mayday Parker, and Miguel O'Hara, the Spider-Man of the year 2099.
The 2099 universe lasted far longer than anyone thought it would, and was accepted far more lovingly than Marvel probably ever thought it would be. Mostly because they attached top tier talent to this imprint, making sure that characters such as Miguel were iconic right out of the gate.
Miguel is a scientist working for Marvel evil corporation staple Alchemax. Of course, being a scientist in a cyberpunk universe working for a corporation that may as well have a wing dedicated to revolutionary new puppy kicking technology, he finds out that his bosses are up to no good. But after an experiment gives him superpowers similar to the famed wall crawler of century's past, Miguel decides to fight back against Alchemax and revive the legend of Spider-Man for a Nueva York that desperately needs it.
While there are plenty of other heroes in the Marvel 2099 universe, Spider-Man is - of course - the most famous of the bunch, and is thus treated with the most importance. Peter Parker might have great power and great responsibility, but at least he doesn't have to make sure the planet survives to see the year 3000.
