Carnage discovered he could magnify his power to godlike proportions if he stole the energy from anyone who had bonded with a Symbiote. If he obtained enough power, he could awaken his master and creator of the Symbiote race, Knull.

He created a symbiotic army called the Grendels to track down the Scorpion, who had previously fused with Carnage's father, Venom. When the Grendels found the Scorpion, he was in the middle of fighting Miles Morales. When Miles tried to save the Scorpion, one of the Grendels bonded with him, turning him into a six-armed symbiotic monster.

Although Miles is pure of heart, merging with a Symbiote overrides the moral compass of the host, forcing them to act violently. While under the alien's influence, Miles attempted to murder J. Jonah Jameson, and even sank his teeth into the Daily Bugle editor.

Miles momentarily broke free of his Symbiote, but voluntarily fused with it once more to spy on Carnage. Allying with Venom and Peter Parker, the heroes managed to defeat Carnage.
