Spider-Man Symbolism: What 10 Famous Villains Really Mean

1. Venom/Carnage/Toxin Etc - Amplifed Evil Versions Of Himself

When Spider-Man got rid of an alien symbiote costume he had been wearing, it bonded with Eddie Brock - a reported who hated the hero for being the cause of him losing his job and his reputation. The symbiote, known as Venom, gave Brock all of Spider-Man's powers but amplified, granted him protection from his Spider-Sense and gave him the knowledge of Parker's secret identity. Essentially, it made him a more powerful and more aggressive Spider-Man, which basically showed Peter Parker what he could do with his powers if he didn't use them responsibly and highlights the potential danger he poses should he opt to use them for evil - Venom is, therefore, the menace that J. Jonah Jameson tries to portray Spider-Man as. Although their origin stories aren't the same as Venom, the characters of Carnage, Toxin and a number of other symbiote-based villains represent the exact same thing (but putting them as separate entries in this list when they're all so similar would feel like cheating). So there you have it - ten famous Spider-Man villains and what they really mean. Did you enjoy this article? Do you agree with the entries on this list?
