Spider-Man Symbolism: What 10 Famous Villains Really Mean

10. Kaine - A Character Foil

Kaine is an imperfect clone of Peter Parker who was created by Professor Miles Warren and who also doubles as the Jackal. He does, however, have some genetic flaws and, as a result, he is slowly degenerating and is both deformed and mentally unstable. He possesses all of the same powers as Spider-Man, as well as some additional abilities - such as his "Mark of Kaine" power, which enables him to burn a distinctive mark in to his victim's skin - but he uses his powers for evil (though he did become something of an anti-hero). Therefore, he acts as a foil for Spider-Man, in the sense that he can do everything the hero can do, but uses them for opposing purposes and thus highlights the good qualities in the Webbed Wonder and what he could be if he was a bad person who wished to abuse his powers.
