Spider-Man Symbolism: What 10 Famous Villains Really Mean

6. Mysterio - The Facade Of Being Just Peter Parker

Peter Parker spends his life trying to be normal - at least when he's not in costume. He has to create the illusion or the facade that he is nothing more than a college student and newspaper photographer so that the people around him don't suffer the consequences of his actions against villains as his heroic alter-ego Spider-Man. As a result, having a villain whose main power is the ability to cast illusions mirrors Parker's own life - and that's what Mysterio's major power is. Mysterio is Quentin Beck - a disgraced stuntman and illusionist who takes a disliking to Spider-Man and seeks to discredit and frame him. Ironically, his power is something that Parker could really do with in order to help him with his own life, yet in the hands of Mysterio the power poses a real threat to him.
