Spider-Man Symbolism: What 10 Famous Villains Really Mean
3. Green Goblin - His Own Duality
Very few of Spider-Man's villains actually have such an obvious dual identity, but the Green Goblin is certainly one of them and he represents a somewhat exaggerated version of Peter Parker's own duality. On the one hand, in the same way Peter Parker is a college student by day, Norman Osborn is the creator and owner of Oscorp - a multinational corporation based out of the Oscorp Tower in New York. On the other hand, in the same way Peter Parker is the masked hero Spider-Man by night, Norman Osborn is the crazed an psychotic Green Goblin. The two personalities of Norman Osborn couldn't be more different. While he is ruthless in business, he is certainly sound of mind and sophisticated. As the Green Goblin, he is unstable and powerful in a different way - in the sense that he is granted super-strength, durability, flight and vast offensive power by virtue of his high-tech equipment. Personality wise, Osborn and Parker couldn't be more different, but they mirror each other in many ways as well - mostly due to their double lives.
