Spider-Man: 10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Spider-Verse

1. The Events Cannoned Into 'Secret Wars' Far Too Quickly

Ultimately one of the biggest problems with single hero event comics these days is that they're coming far too thick and fast. Many readers may argue that it's a 'more the merrier' type of deal, but since these things are invariably so frantic and leave so little room for real character growth, then that really isn't true.

Spider-Verse suffered from a similar problem. Only a handful of issues followed the epilogue of the event, sending readers almost immediately into the next big event with Secret Wars. Slott's Renew Your Vows story that worked alongside this was wonderfully crafted, but moving on so quickly didn't give the conclusion of Spider-Verse enough time to breathe.

Immediately readers find themselves focusing on the next big development in Peter's life - albeit an alternative one, of course. This meant that a number of overhanging questions from the final panels of Spider-Verse were left unanswered. While some nods and winks have been made back to that since, this huge event has almost been pushed into "flash in the pan" territory.

Dan Slott's Spider-Verse was absolutely an epic adventure, and one that any Spider-Man fan should make time to read. It's a big shame that a few faults and some unfortunate timing stop it from achieving perfection.
