Spider-Man: 10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Spider-Verse
2. Kaine's Sacrifice Is Undermined In The Epilogue
As the Scarlet Spider, Kaine played an important role in the events of Spider-Verse. During the pages of some of the Team Up issues, Kaine led divisions of the Spider Army across crucial missions in the quest to stop the Inheritors.
And, as one of the three totems needed by the Inheritors for their ultimate victory, Kaine was always a big piece of the puzzle for both sides. When he managed to take the form of The Other and avenge fallen friends by killing Solus with his massive arachnid form, Kaine gained a major victory before paying the ultimate price. He was subsequently killed by Morlun, making him the event's highest profile casualty.
That is, until he wasn't anymore. During the aftermath of the battles and as Spiders flocked back to their own universes, Kaine was seen to be rising once again from the corpse of the fallen beast. This meant that, despite pre-release synopses for the story suggesting "anyone could die", no hero of note was actually killed during the event.
Kaine's death as he defeated Solus, along with the macabre of an event that promised much despair, was undermined by this last minute restoration. Kaine is obviously a well-liked character, but there could at least have been some delay before his inevitable return!
