Spider-Man: 10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Spider-Verse

6. Coipel Shouldn't Have Had To Work With Camuncoli

One of the great things about a huge Marvel Comics event like this is that readers are usually in for some spectacular artistry bringing the panels to life. Spider-Verse started off like it would be no exception, with the immensely talented Olivier Coipel taking the lead on the pencilling for the early issues of the main story.

In the second half of the event, however, Coipel had to share the duties with current Amazing Spider-Man regular Giuseppe Camuncoli. Camuncoli's art obviously has its fans - he's been consistently working on Amazing Spider-Man and took a big lead on Superior Spider-Man - but it just can't compare with the dynamic detail that Coipel works with.

Camuncoli's work isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, and if he'd been involved as the only penciller from the first moment then there'd probably have been no disappointment. After we were treated to Coipel's mastery in the first issues, however, it was practically heartbreaking not to have him craft every single stroke of the main issues. It was like being robbed of the prowess he brought to the first few.
