Spider-Man: 10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Spider-Verse

3. The Biggest Plot Twist Sat Outside Of The Main Titles

We've already talked about how huge the Spider-Verse event was, so it was only natural that there would be a heavy reliance on tie-ins and supplementary titles to capture everything. But, since not every reader will always opt to pick up all titles under the event umbrella, it should be important to make sure the biggest beats happen in the main series.

For Slott's Spider-Verse, this didn't quite work out. While the vast majority of the major happenings worked through the pages of the main issues, one major twist was pushed to a secondary title. Karn, the early instigator in a lot of the conflict, changes sides later on and becomes a key player in helping the Spider-Army emerge victorious.

This move was brought to life extremely well, with Karn even being granted a reprieve with readers as we learned more about his past and his motivations. The trouble, unfortunately, was that this occurred in the pages of Spider-Verse Team Up rather than Amazing Spider-Man's thickest thread. His sudden change of heart felt jarring in the main books, and anyone not collecting every Spider-Verse title would have been robbed of the aforementioned exchanges with this move being pushed to secondary content. Collected editions fortunately address this, but the release schedule at the time of publishing definitely hurt the story by doing separating Karn's redemption.
