Star Wars: 10 Best Expanded Universe Comics From The New Canon
2. Vader Down (2016)
Vader Down is the first Star Wars crossover in the new Marvel era for the franchise. The event combined the writing talents of Jason Aaron (Thor) and Kieron Gillen (Darth Vader), as well as the the artistic flair of Mike Deodato Jr. (Avengers: Time Runs Out) and Salvador Larroca (Darth Vader). Crossing over the Star Wars and Darth Vader ongoing comics, the event saw Vader stranded alone with the weight of the Rebel army bearing down on him.
Unfortunately, the odds are still in Vader's favour.
The six-issue event captures the threat of Darth Vader perfectly while conveying the desperation from the Rebel fleet as they attempt to assassinate one of the figureheads of the Empire. The art team is stunning as usual, conveying the likeness of the characters accurately.
Vader Down is a perfect Star Wars comic to pick up in isolation of any other Star Wars comics, as it perfectly encapsulates the franchise. It is a must-read for any Darth Vader fan especially though, with the Dark Lord of the Sith having plenty of scene-stealing moments throughout the comic.
