Writer: David Michelinie Art: Walter Simonson The Rebels receive word that the Empire is constructing a new super weapon call the Tarkin, so Luke, Leia and company are sent on a mission to infiltrate the crew of the Tarkin and find a way to destroy the weapon before it can be put to use. Meanwhile a group of Imperial commanders, fed up with the way Vader is running things, unite to assassinate the dark lord. However Vader survives their attempt and the Rebels are able to sabotage the super weapon, which explodes while trying to destroy the fleeing Millennium Falcon. This is Star Wars meets Mission Impossible and it works in all the right ways. Every one of our heroes gets there moment to shine as they try to figure out a way to stop this horrible weapon. We see the inner workings of the Imperial military and their realization that Vader is the cause of most of their failed attempts to stop the Rebellion as he becomes increasingly obsessed with finding Luke. Luke and Leia sneaking around the Tarkin is fun, but the insight this story provides into what the Empires true aims are and how they should go about achieving them are what stand out the most. We suppose you can only force-choke so many Imperial officers before the rest are going to try to take matters into their own hands.
I've been a huge sci-fi fan ever since going to see "Star Wars" at the tender age of 3 (and yes I actually do remember it! I love pretty much any intelligent and entertaining film and television series (some of my all time favorites are 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Battlestar Galactica [SyFy], and The West Wing). Must thank the stars above for such things as HBOGO and Netflix (Am thoroughly enjoying Ripper Street btw). I've also been an avid comic book collector since childhood. I earned a bachelor's degree in creative writing with a second emphasis in film studies from Florida State University (Go Noles!) and definitely enjoy sitting back and watching pretty much any sports. I wish I had a joke to end with, but I don't so I'll simply say "The End."
