Writer: Jo Duffy Art: Kerry Gammill, Ron Frenz, & Tom Palmer Luke, Lando, Chewie, and R2 travel to Stenos, a planet that Luke visited with Han and Leia years earlier. Luke recounts the story of how they encountered Rik Duel, Dani, and Chihdo, a group of smugglers who say theyre on the side of the Rebellion, but end up double-crossing Luke and company. Upon entering the capital city, Luke and Lando immediately find themselves in hot water as they run across some old enemies of Lando. As they search for clues to Boba Fetts whereabouts, Luke and Lando run into Rik Duel and Dani. Claiming to have information that will help their search, Luke and Lando agree to help them find the missing Chihdo, but soon find themselves facing carbonite freezing at the hands of bounty hunters. Along with the help of Chewie and R2, Luke, Lando, Rik and Dani are able to escape, find Chihdo, and get away by the skin of their teeth. The first issue of this story is a flashback to the period between Episodes IV and V and its great fun to see Han in action again. The comic series spent a lot of time exploring the seedier elements of the Star Wars universe, and this story is one of the best examples. Rik Duel, Dani, and Chihdo quickly became fan favorites and would turn up again. They provided a nice counter-point to the noble heroes fans had grown used to seeing on screen and in the pages of the series. Danis infatuation with Luke would continue to provide great comedic moments throughout the series, while always reminding readers of the deadly nature of this over-sexed smuggler. Despite being no closer to finding Han at the end of the story, Luke and company are left feeling that if they continue to turn over enough rocks, eventually theyll uncover the right information that leads to the location of their friend.
I've been a huge sci-fi fan ever since going to see "Star Wars" at the tender age of 3 (and yes I actually do remember it! I love pretty much any intelligent and entertaining film and television series (some of my all time favorites are 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Battlestar Galactica [SyFy], and The West Wing). Must thank the stars above for such things as HBOGO and Netflix (Am thoroughly enjoying Ripper Street btw). I've also been an avid comic book collector since childhood. I earned a bachelor's degree in creative writing with a second emphasis in film studies from Florida State University (Go Noles!) and definitely enjoy sitting back and watching pretty much any sports. I wish I had a joke to end with, but I don't so I'll simply say "The End."
