The Joker: 10 Totally Different Characters He's Been

7. Dreadlocked Monster

2004's The Batman animated series was a fairly non-traditional take on the Dark Knight, to say the least. Where the previous show managed to take decades of continuity and make something consistent and great, The Batman decided to throw most of that out the window in pursuit of a more modern, contemporary spin on the character. Which meant that Batman got a cool new car, visual style, and supporting cast of Gotham cops who were on different sides of the fence when it came to allowing the masked vigilante to operate in the city. Oh, and all the villains got makeovers too €“ to varied results. The Riddler looked like Marilyn Manson, The Penguin went ginger for some reason, but The Joker's redesign was the most radical. He was an imposing physical presence wrapped up in a straightjacket, with big green dreadlocks. He still tortured people though, and was responsible for the creation of Clayface.
