After Odin had been gifted a piece of Uru, the Sky God returned the piece to the craftsmen of Nidavellir and ordered them to create a unique war hammer for the All-Father. Uru resembles stone but contains metallic properties that allow it to store any kind of energy, including magic.

At the forge on Nidavellir, dwarf blacksmiths Eitri, Brokk and Buri needed incredible amounts of heat to manipulate the Uru metal. They used the heart of a star to power their forge, and the process of completing the hammer took 17 weeks. Near the end of this work, the star exploded and nearly took the planet Earth - Midgard to the Asgardians - with it. The hammer landed on the planet with tremendous force, and the resulting shockwave may have been the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Odin retrieved the hammer, which he named Mjolnir, from Midgard and took it back to Asgard. His first attempt to use the weapon was disastrous, as Odin lost control and Mjolnir devastated the Golden City. He then placed an enchantment on the hammer to ensure that no one else could wield it. After he briefly used it with the “Prehistoric Avengers”, Mjolnir sat in Odin’s armory for centuries.
