Thor: 10 Legendary Mjolnir Facts

3. There’s A God In There

Mighty Thor
Marvel Comics

The Dwarves of Nidavellir gave a large piece of the Uru that had fallen on their realm to Odin, the All-Father of Asgard. This piece was from an Uru moon which shattered during the battle between two Elder Gods, and it was gifted to Odin for his help in defending the realm from an army of trolls.

Sometime later, the God Tempest - an Elder God in the form of an incalculably large cosmic storm - approached Asgard. Also known as the Mother Storm and the Mother of Thunder, the cosmic thunderstorm has existed since the dawn of time and has grown in intensity over the eons. It also reserves its full power for those who truly deserve it, implying that there is sentience to it.

Odin battled the storm with the power of the Odin Force for weeks when it arrived at Asgard. When the God Tempest grew tired and weak from the struggle, the All-Father struck it with the piece of Uru that the Dwarves had gifted him. Because of the metal’s unique properties and the magic employed, the God Tempest became trapped in the metal.
